The Latino Voter Impact

The Latino vote has a potential impact and importance in this presidential election. Often referred to as the sleeping giant, 27 million of Latinos are eligible to vote making us 12 percent of the country’s eligible voting population. This has led both political parties to recognize that capturing the Latino vote may be crucial to make it to the White House.

The economic importance Latinos play in the American society is another reason of why we are emerging as a powerful force. We are entrepreneurs and play important economic contributions through job creation and economic development. According to the 2013 Multicultural Report from the Selig Center for Economic Growth at the University of Georgia, Latinos purchasing power has grown 70 percent faster than Americans as a whole since the 1980s.

Over the course of this campaign, Latino voters have shown that in addition to areas where Latinos are known to care about such as immigration and civil and labor rights, we are also concerned to other critical issues, including education, health care, environment and economic growth.

Let’s discuss the different ways in which Latinos can make sure we turn out in record numbers to the polls. Join us this coming Thursday, November 3 at our weekly #LATISM Twitter Chat where we will address the impact and importance of Latino vote.
